Hooked in the Mountains 2022 Overview
The Board of the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild is pleased to announce that there WILL be a show in 2022.
Charged with finding a more central location within Vermont, we were excited to discover that the Vermont College of Fine Arts had two nearly adjacent buildings that would meet our needs. (map of campus)
Alumnx Hall is the old brick gymnasium with high arched windows and lots of natural light and will be the venue for our exhibit and opening reception.
Two featured artists, Sandra Grant and Grace Collette, will each have a “room” to display many of their pieces. During the show they’ll each have a couple of scheduled times they’ll be in their galleries where visitors can meet them, and hear more about how each piece was created.
Many of the past Juror and Visitors’ Choice Rugs from our 2018 in person show and our 2020 virtual show will be on display.
New this year, we encourage young artists ages 18 and under, to display their work if they are sponsored by a member of the guild. We hope to inspire the next generation of rug artists.
In the building two doors down will be our eight Vendors, six Classes, a Guild sales room, a Hook-in area, and dorm rooms.
Wrist bands will be sold in each building and will grant the bearer to admittance to both buildings. Workshop students will get a wristband for the day or days of their class. Admission to the show is $15, or $20 for a multi-day pass that would get you in all four days. You can buy tickets in advance at EventBrite and then check in at the desk in Alumnx Hall to get your wristband.
Groups of students and their teachers / chaperones can arrange for a group rate of $5 per person. Please contact Biffie Gallant.
A multi-prize raffle has already begun online at https://bit.ly/rugraffle2022 and all prizes will be on display at the show. You buy your tickets and submit them for the prize you hope to win. No chance of winning something you didn’t want! Buy tickets online now, or at the show. You’ll also be able to buy tickets for cash at the show and we’ll enter your data for you. Tickets are $5 or 6 for $25.
Sponsors for the show will be listed on huge posters in both buildings, with some of them offering special discounts to show attendees. We welcome more sponsors to join in! You can snap a picture of this poster, or the ads that interest you. We’re not printing programs or sponsor lists.
Each attendee will have the opportunity to vote for the Viewers’ Choice awards given to the top ten vote getters.
There is no food available on campus but the campus is just .8 miles from downtown Montpelier where there are many options for lunch or dinner. Two hotels have offered special rates, and there are dorm rooms available for those who want to stay overnight at the show.
